“Where it all happened” - Guided tours
The Settlement Centre provides guides taking groups to many of the places of interest in the area around Borgarnes where much of the action of Egils Saga took place. Advance bookings only. This trip is known as “Egil’s Trail” and the circuit commences in Borgarnes.
The tour
The trail begins by the cairn built in memorian of the slave Brák the woman who fostered the viking Egil and gave her live in order to save his. From here the trail leads to the site of the first farmhouse at Borg at Myrar and Egil’s birthplace. A short and easy walk up the hill behind the farm gives an splendid wiew over the beautyful countysite. Next the area where Egil spent his youth is investigated, including Krum’s Bog where legend has it that a hoard of silver buried by Egil’s father still lies undiscovered.
Iceland is the land of Sagas - in this trip you will live the saga on the spot it took place.
